He became a pan-India face after starring in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Kaithi and followed it up with his quirky role in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan franchise. In Meiyazhagan, he plays the role of an affectionate villager. According to reports, Karthi has received a salary of ₹16 crore for Meiyazhagan. Reports suggest that he earns ₹15 crore-₹30 crore for a film.

While Arvind Swamy, despite taking a gap of 5 years from films, has managed to take home a fat paycheck from the film. Reports suggest that he has received ₹5 crore for acting in the film.

The story is a light-hearted drama and unfolds in a single night. It follows the bond between a man, who returns to his hometown after nearly two decades and meets another person, who took care of him during his childhood days.

Meiyazhagan is directed by Prem Kumar of 96 fame and in his inimitable style, the film unfolds through conversations, inter-cutting between the past and the present. Apart from Karthi and Arvind Swamy, the film also stars Sri Divya, Swathi, Rajkiran and Devadarsini among others. Mahendran Jayaraju is the cinematographer and Govind Vasantha has scored the music. Actor Kamal Haasan has also lent his voice to one of the tracks in the film.

The streaming partner of Meiyazhagan is Netflix. The movie should be available to watch on the OTT platforms after 4 weeks of its theatrical release.
