Soori and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Viduthalai Part 1 released in cinema halls in 2023 and opened to good reviews. Later, after its OTT premiere, it gained more traction with many praising how realistic and emotional the film is. Vetrimaaran has been quite candid about the project, often sharing how the budget that he started with surpassed within a few days of the film going on the floors. Among other issues, budget problems persisted but Vetrimaaran saw through the filming process.

Work on Viduthalai Part 2 has been ongoing but now reports have hinted that a third installment could also be in the offing.

Viduthalai Part 3 to follow?

According to a report in Gulte, according to sources in the Tamil film circles, the runtime of Viduthalai Part 2 has already reached 4 hours and 30 minutes, with about 30% of the shoot still pending. This has led to speculation that Vetrimaran might be planning a third installment in the series. An official confirmation in this regard can only happen when the runtime for the second part is locked and the director himself clears the air.

What do we know about Viduthalai?

The film, set against the backdrop of Naxalite movements, contains many intense and heart-wrenching scenes depicting the brutal reality of the police system during that era. Viduthalai was originally announced as a single film in April 2021, with principal photography already having commenced in December 2020.

However, it was later announced to be released in two-parts. It was predominantly shot in Chengalpattu, with the first part's portions wrapping by late-December 2022. The film's music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography handled by R Velraj and editing by R Ramar.
