Amid the ongoing #MeToo movement in Mollywood, Radhikaa Sarathkumar has also shared an unpleasant experience she faced while working on a project in Kerala.
Radhikaa Sarathkumar has appeared in movies across industries, including Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada, in a career spanning over 4 decades. Amid the ongoing #MeToo movement in Mollywood, the veteran actress has also shared an incident she witnessed while working on a project in Kerala. In a recent interview, she made a shocking claim about crew members secretly recording female artists changing clothes in vanity vans.
Crew members filmed female artists in Kerala
In an interview with Asianet News' Namaste Kerala, Radhikaa recounted an incident when she was working on a project in Kerala. During the break, she saw people gathered together and laughing at a video. "I called a crew member and asked him what they were watching. I was told there were cameras in the vanity vans and footage of women changing clothes was captured using the same. I was told you just type the name of the artiste, and you will find a video of them changing dress. I saw the video," she added.
However, she refused to share where the incident took place or the year and said, "If we spit looking upwards, it will fall on our face only. So I don’t want to take names." However, she assured no big people were not involved and it was done by small-time technicians. The actress further shared that Tamil actress Trisha Krishnan has faced such an issue. She had a hidden camera in her vanity van. “Cameras in caravan happened to Tamil actress Trisha and another actress in Tirupati,” she added.
Radhikaa Sarathkumar confronted the crew
After learning about the hidden cameras, the actress got "very angry" and afraid to step into her vanity van. She then confronted the crew members about the hidden cameras and threatened them following which she was told that they would look into the matter. "After the incident, I told other female artists about the hidden cameras. I was afraid to go into my vanity van after the incident. It is a private space for us to change, to take rest, or to have food," she concluded.
Radhikaa's shocking claims have come post the release of the Hema Committee report that shed light on the atrocities women face in the Malayalam cinema. According to the report, they are subject to gender inequality, pay parity, exploitation, sexual harassment and poor condition of sanitation for them.
