GOAT Box Office Collection Day 1: Vijay Starrer Becomes Biggest Tamil Opener, Mints ₹43 Crore

The Greatest Of All Time Box Office Collection: Thalapathy Vijay starrer GOAT hit the theatres on September 5 and as expected it turned out to be a hit among the audience. Helmed by Venkat Prabhu, the movie buffs are dubbing the movie a "blockbuster" and calling Vijay's performance the best. The movie has made a record-breaking opening at the domestic box office.

The sci-fi thriller opened at a whopping ₹43 crore at the box office collection, becoming the first Tamil to have the biggest opening in 2024, so far. It earned ₹38.3 crore in Tamil, ₹1.7 crore in Hindi and ₹3 crore in Telugu. The movie has beaten Kamal Haasan starrer Indian 2 which opened at ₹26 crore at the domestic box office. With this, the recent release of Vijay has joined the actor’s other massive openers like Sarkar, Beast, and Leo in the ₹30 crore-plus club.

The Greatest of All Time had an overall 76.23 per cent Tamil occupancy on Thursday with the maximum reported in Trichy (100 per cent), followed by Chennai and Pondicherry (99 per cent).

Seeing the collection and owing to positive word-of-mouth, the movie is expected to earn around ₹90 crore in the opening weekend. It might also reach ₹150 crore mark in the opening week. If it happens so then The GOAT will be the fastest-earning movie in Tamil to enter the club.

In the movie, Trisha recreated the iconic dance number after 20 years. She appeared alongside Vijay in the special song Matta which is a recreation of their popular track Ghilli from the 2004 movie Appadi Podu. On the other hand, a cinematic segment featuring MS Dhoni playing an IPL match left the fans in utter surprise. Although it lasted only a few seconds, it was enough for the fans to go berserk. Interestingly, both Vijay and Dhoni are affectionately called 'Thala' by their fans.
