One cannot talk about Bigg Boss without mentioning Rakhi Sawant. The model-turned-actress has often made headlines for her tactics and appearances in the show. She appeared in the inaugural season of the show and it remains one of the most memorable instances from the show. Be it her sudden outbursts, spreading rumours about the supernatural presence or drama-filled fights with contestants, Rakhi made headlines during her stay in the Bigg Boss house and still participates in the show occasionally.

Another contestant closely related to the controversy is Dolly Bindra. She was especially known for her sudden outburst and temper tantrums. Her spat with Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari remains one of the most talked about Bigg Boss moments. In the instance, Dolly could be heard telling the singer, “baap pe mat jaana”.

It is usually the contestants with a short temperament who get into altercations and make news in the controversial reality show. One such personality is Pooja Mishra from the fifth season. Apart from her famous house-cleaning spat, she continued to make news for filing a lawsuit against a co-contestant.

Imam Siddique appeared in the ninth season of Bigg Boss. He made news for his eccentric and outrageous confrontations which made him one of the most hated contestants over the year. In one instance, he wore a bare-skin suit which he began to remove in the episode, making housemates uncomfortable. He was made to level the show mid-season following an ugly spat with fellow contestant Aashka Goradia.

Armaan Kohli was involved with Kajol's sister Tanishaa Mukerji who was also a part of the house. His possessive and aggressive nature towards her became a topic of contention. However, what made him the most controversial was his arrest and mid-season eviction. He was arrested from the set of the show due to alleged physical assault on co-contestant Sofia Hayat in Bigg Boss.

The list of the most controversial contestants on the show cannot be completed without the mention of the infamous Baba. From commenting on female contestants' attires to passing shrewd remarks on the host, Swami Om remains one of the most hated Bigg Boss contestants. The final nail in the coffin was when he took a bowl of urine and threw it on fellow contestants leading to his elimination.
