Anupamaa star Rupali Ganguly reveals she faced casting couch in the industry during her initial days

Rupali Ganguly has become a household name with her current show Anupamaa. However, the actress is not new to fame and gained popular acclaim for her serial Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Parvarish. In a recent interview, she confirmed being a victim of the casting couch in the film industry and pinned it as a reason for not achieving success in Bollywood.

Rupali Ganguly says she was considered a failure

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Rupali Ganguly got candid about not making a strong career in films. She reiterated it was a personal choice to maintain distance from show business because of the experiences she faced. She recalled, “There was one time when I didn't do well in films and that was a choice I made. Because predominantly casting couch existed in the industry at that point of time, it did.”

The Anupamaa actress also recalled being ‘judged’ for making a career in the television industry and not films. The actress reasoned that she did not star in films because she faced the casting couch. She said, “Maybe some people didn't come across it but people like me did come across it and we decided not to make that choice. So you're considered a failure because you come from a film family.”

Having revealed the struggles she faced at the beginning of her career. Rupali went on to note that she has not regrets of not starring in films. She said, “At that time, I did feel small but today I feel very proud. I feel very proud. My Anupamaa has given me that stature and position which I always dreamt of and I hoped for her. So Anupamaa is like life-changing for me. I am so grateful to god and my father. I think he did it.”
