Amar Upadhyay became a household name when featured as Mihir Virani in Ektaa Kapoor's hit TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, during the peak of his career, the actor quit the show. Now, Amar, in a recent interview, opened up about his decision and whether he regrets leaving the show a mistake.

Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, the TV star said that people typecasted him after his portrayal as Mihir. He said, "Log toh perception banate hi hai. Wo toh automatic mode me hi hota hai. Till I am confident within myself and I know what capabilities I have as an actor, so I don’t need people’s validation."

Amar admitted that the decision to leave the show was "risky" but neither he blames himself or anyone for the decision. "If I have done something and it didn’t work, so it didn’t work," continued.

The actor added that his family told him that he made a mistake by leaving the show, but he defended his decision by making them understand. "Uss situation me, uss waqt agar sahi laga tha mujhe, toh I have to be with myself and have confidence in myself," he added.

Amar Upadhyay on feeling discriminated in the TV industry

After quitting Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Amar featured in several TV shows such as Kalash, Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, Saathiya – Pyar Ka Naya Ehsaas, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kkusum, but all in supporting role. The actor is currently be seen in Doree and said that he felt discrimination in the television industry. He said that earlier he used to feel but over the years it changed.

"Primarily yeah but now he has been lucky. TV industry is like that but the kind of roles that I have done, mostly they were male-oriented. Female-oriented story hoti thi par it used to ultimately turn onto the males. Even this show Doree is between father and daughter, so the father is very important," the actor said.
