Shouryuv is set to make his directorial debut with the film Hi Nanna, starring Nani and Mrunal Thakur. In an interview with Film Companion, Shouryuv shared that his passion for storytelling emerged as early as 6th grade when he wrote his first story. The decision to become a director solidified in 7th grade, marking the beginning of his creative journey.

When did Shouryuv decide to become a director?

During the interview, Shouryuv shared that in school he decided to be a director. He said, "I think I wrote my first story when I was in 6th grade. Many of my friends liked it and in 7th grade, I decided to become a director." Meanwhile, his childhood fascination with anime, cartoons like Kick Buttowski and Ben Ten, and a love for comics laid the foundation for his creative spirit.

He said, “Whenever I'm a little down, not just me, even my whole team starts watching Kick Buttowski.”

Who was Shouryuv's mentor?

Shouryuv's foray into filmmaking took a significant turn under the mentorship of Vijayendra Prasad, the acclaimed storyteller behind blockbusters like RRR, Baahubali, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Learning under Prasad's guidance, Shouryuv highlighted the importance of understanding the essence of a story.

He said, "Whenever I’d go and explain to him a thought of mine, he’d ask me, 'That's alright, but what is your story?' That's how I learnt the importance of understanding what my story is about."

Who are Shouryuv's favourite filmmakers?

As the conversation shifted towards Shouryuv's influences, he mentioned people like Rajamouli, Quentin Tarantino, and Guy Ritchie. Singling out Rajamouli, he expressed, "Everyone likes Rajamouli. We can't start a list without his name." Shouryuv also revealed a diverse range of influences, from anime and Shawshank Redemption to Shankar's Gentleman and Pokiri.

When asked about life-defining movies, Shouryuv found it challenging to choose one. He expressed a deep appreciation for films from various corners of the world, not as an academic exercise but as a lifelong passion. "I applaud every movie that touches my heart and becomes a part of my memory; I want to make a movie like that," he stated. Meanwhile, Hi Nanna will release on December 21.
