Vishwak Sen is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming action drama titled Gangs of Godavari. The film is scheduled to release this Friday. The movie is directed by Krishna Chaitanya and features Neha Shetty and Anjali as the female leads. During a recent media interaction, the filmmaker revealed that Vishwak Sen was not the first choice for Gangs of Godavari.
During a recent media interaction, Krishna Chaitanya revealed that some other actor had already begun shooting for Gangs of Godavari but due to unforeseen reasons last minute changes were made to the star cast. He said, "I first shared the idea of the Gangs of Godavari with artist Anand Ramaraju, and from there, we began working on the story. The film initially started with Sharwanand. But Sharwanand asked to keep this movie on hold as his movie before this was an emotional film. Because of this, we encountered some gaps. Another movie of mine was also put on hold, and I was afraid there would be a lot of gaps. Then I narrated this story to Vishwak, and he liked the story, and the film took off again."
Gangs of Godavari was initially slated for a release in the first week of December last year. However, owing to some key segments left to film, coupled with threat of competition from other big releases in the same stretch such as Nani's Hi Nanna and Nithin's Extra Ordinary Man, the release of the film was pushed ahead.
At the time, Vishwak Sen had reacted rather aggressively to the situation stating how he would refuse to promote the film if it did not release within the month itself. He was eventually reasoned with by producer Naga Vamsi. Earlier in April, the new release date for the film was set at May 17. However, this too was changed to May 31, which appears to what the makers are now proceeding with.
