Salaar box office: Film mints ₹175 crore worldwide, makers claim biggest opening of Indian cinema
Earlier, the record for the biggest opening for an Indian film globally was held by Vijay's Leo, which released earlier this year and minted ₹148 crore.

Prabhas starrer Salaar was one of the most-awaited films of this year. After releasing on the big screens on December 22, the Prashanth Neel directorial has made box office history as it registered the biggest opening in the history of Indian cinema.
According to Hombale Films, Salaar minted ₹175 crore gross worldwide on its opening day, beating Leo as the biggest opener in the history of Indian cinema.
A breakdown of Salaar box office business day 1
Hombale Films shared that Salaar started breaking records in pre-sales right before the release and has sold 30.5 lakhs tickets in its advance bookings in India, amounting to ₹95 crore from the pre-booking for the day of its release. The Prabhas starrer wrote history at the Indian box office by raking in ₹135 crore. Globally, it minted ₹175 crore gross worldwide. Early morning shows of the film started at 12:21 AM and has proved to be a factor in the cumulative collection.
Salaar beats Leo's record for the biggest opening
Earlier this year, Tamil film Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay set the record for the biggest opening for an Indian film after it minted ₹148.5 crore.
With Salaar minting ₹175 on its opening day, it has set the stage for another blockbuster in the making and will also pave the way for Prabhas' comeback at the box office.
Salaar features Prabhas along with Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film is produced by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films.
