Music producer Timbaland has officially extended his apologies for his recent remarks about pop star Britney Spears. The said apology has arrived after the producer received severe backlash online for his remarks.

She going crazy, Timbaland had remarked about Britney Spears

Timbaland had made the said comments during a live interview on October 29 with 9th Wonder at the Kennedy Center, according to Variety. During the session, one of the audience had asked a question about renewed interest in the Timberlake-Timbaland collab Cry Me A River after the release of Spears’ memoir. In response, Timbaland remarked, “"She goin' crazy, right? I wanted to call JT, 'Man, you gotta put a muzzle on that girl'."

These remarks were heavily criticised online, with many users tagging Timbaland as they expressed their resentment. Eventually, after a heavy day of backlash on social media, Timbaland went live on TikTok as he does most nights, showing remorse for his comments. "I apologise to the Britney fans and her," he said, reading a comment asking about his attitude towards women. "Yes, 'you know about respecting women?' Hell yeah."

Cry Me a River painted me as a villain: Spears

Timbaland and Timberlake have collaborated on several occasions. Besides Cry Me a River, the two had also worked together for two other Timberlake albums - FutureSex/LoveSounds and The 20/20 Experience which released in 2006 and 2013, respectively. Earlier this year, Timbaland also confirmed to Variety that he finished recording Timberlake’s new album.

In an excerpt from her memoir The Woman in Me, Spears wrote that the said Timberlake's collab music video with Timbaland painted her as a villain after the fallout of their widely publicised relationship. According to Spears, the video, which featured Timberlake dealing with an unfaithful girlfriend that looked more or less like Spears, had seemingly confirmed a rumour perpetuated by the media that Spears had cheated on Timberlake. Spears wrote that the media attention that erupted because of the music video’s release turned her into a "harlot who'd broken the heart of America's golden boy," when in reality she was "comatose in Louisiana" nursing a broken heart and Timberlake was “happily running around Hollywood."
