The film is extensively shot on real-life locations across Europe, and the makers have taken diligent measures to recreate the Italy of 1940s and 1950s. The film is based on Brock Yates’ book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine, and adapted for screen by Troy Kennedy Martin, who has been writing TV shows and movies for over 60 years.

Ferrari set to release on Christmas

Besides being the first collaboration between Adam Driver and director Michael Mann, Ferrari is also the first time Driver and Penelope Cruz are working together. Reportedly, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman were approached earlier to play Enzo Ferrari. However, the makers finally zeroed down on the Marriage Story actor Adam Driver.
