Big NIA crackdown on ISIS, raids at 10 locations in Tamil Nadu

In a major development in Tamil Nadu on May 20, National Investigation Agency (NIA) conduct raids at 10 places in the state based on a case filed a few months ago against some people for allegedly supporting ISIS. NIA raided the area near Ramanathapuram, Salem and also at Chidambaram related to the case.

The case was registered in January against 8 members from three districts under 8 sections who were conspiring against India, supporting the idea of Islamic States, NIA have also got a hint that they wanted to release the Jihadis in prison.

Sources also informed that raids are underway at the residence of Sheik Dawood, Mohammed Riyaz, Sadhik, Mubharis Ahmad, Rizwan and Hameed Akbar whose names are mentioned in the case. NIA sources also claim that few members did not turn up for questioning when they were summoned by the officials.

The raids by NIA comes days after it conducted searches at the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political face Social Democratic Party of India's (SDPI's) offices at Trichy, Kumbakonam, and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu. However, those raids were in connection to the murder of former PMK worker and right-wing activist Ramalingam. It is alleged in the FIR that PFI activists allegedly murdered a PMK activist named Ramalingam for allegedly opposing religious conversions. There was a video that also surfaced which showed how Ramalingam was arguing with few men who were preaching their religion and also allegedly trying to convert people. Ramalingam was killed on the same day which is February 6 in Tribhuvanam of Thanjavur district.

The NIA raids are still underway at the time of publishing, with details scarce.
