In a major development in the murder case of a 3-year-old girl whose mutilated body was found in a garbage dump in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, the Police have suspended five cops due to the delay in the probe of the case.
Speaking in the matter, the police have assured that justice will be provided to the girl and efforts will be made to ensure strict punishment to the accused in the matter.
"We have to give justice to the small child. We will try to take the case in the fast-track court. It will be our initiative to ensure life-sentence to the accused," the police said on Friday.
Two persons - Zahid and Aslam - were arrested by the police in connection with the crime on Thursday, on the basis of the complaint of the victim's father.
Senior Superintendent of Police Akash Kulhari on June 6 said the little girl went missing from Tappal township on May 31 and the police found her mutilated body in a garbage dump near her house on June 2.
"Post-mortem examination has not found any sign of sexual assault. The report confirmed death due to strangulation," the police officer said, as per news agency PTI.
The victim's father has demanded that other family members of the accused be arrested as the crime could not have been carried out without their knowledge. He further threatened that he would start a fast unto death from June 7 if no further arrests were made.
Security measures at Tappal township, 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, have been tightened as a precautionary step after tension mounted there on June 5.
In order to provide justice to the little girl, a campaign has started on social media with prominent personalities condemning the heinous act and demanding action in the matter.
