Lewis Hamilton calls India "poor"; draws wrath from Netizens

Speaking to BBC, he shared how he had been to India before for a race and mentioned how he felt it was strange because India was a poor country yet had a massive, Grand Prix track made in the middle of nowhere. He even said that he felt conflicted when he had to go to that Grand Prix.

Formula One's World Champion Lewis Hamilton had questioned the policy of systematizing races in different countries, post the announcement of the Vietnam Grand Prix.  Speaking to BBC, he shared how he had been to India before for a race and mentioned how he felt it was strange because India was a poor country yet had a massive, Grand Prix track made in the middle of nowhere. He even said that he felt conflicted when he had to go to that Grand Prix. 

This comment drew plenty of controversy from the Indian audience, who were pretty offended by his remarks, as expressed on social media

After signing a 10-year deal, Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam will hold a Formula One street races from 2020. Formula One is not expanding to countries and adding races in India, South Korea, China, Singapore, Russia, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, and Turkey. While, simultaneously the traditional European races in Germany, Italy, and England are facing threats after France dropped off.
