'Such bipartisan support is gladdening': PM Modi thanks MPs across Party lines for their participation as Rajya Sabha unanimously passes J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill

In a big move, the Rajya Sabha, on Monday, unanimously passed the statutory resolution to extend President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months and also passed the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019, proposed by Home Minister Amit Shah, two days after it was passed in Lok Sabha.

In a big move, the Rajya Sabha, on Monday, unanimously passed the statutory resolution to extend President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months and also passed the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019, proposed by Home Minister Amit Shah, two days after it was passed in Lok Sabha. 

Taking to Twitter over the development, PM Modi thanked Members of Parliament across political parties for their enriched participation in the rich debates over the bills pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir. 

He further added that such agreement from all the parties over the bills is "gladdening". 

In another tweet, PM Modi said that the passage of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill ensures justice for those living in the border areas of Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts. The Prime Minister further added that, with the passing of the bill, 'the aspirations of the bright and talented youth of the areas will be fulfilled, which he said that is wonderful for the state and the nation.

After fierce debate in the Upper House of the Parliament on Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed which proposes to give reservation in educational institutions and government jobs to people living within 10 kms of the International Border in Jammu. It also replaces the Ordinance promulgated in this regard. The resolution and the Bill were passed by Lok Sabha on June 28.

On the Reservation Bill in Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah had said it will benefit 3.50 lakh people residing in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
