Pune horror: 2 Minor girls raped; one succumbs, other in deep trauma. Two accused, including one juvenile, nabbed

The Rape-accused allegedly threatened the girls saying that if they tell anyone about the incident, they will kill their families

Update at 1:07 PM: Forensic team of Hinjewadi police reaches the crime scene


Pune woke up on Thursday to shocking & horrifying news of a gang rape of two minor girls. According to the Hinjewadi police in Pimpri-Chinchwad, on September 16, two 12-year-old girls went to a temple near their home to seek blessings. While they were returning from the temple, two persons allegedly lured them with chocolates, took them to an isolated area and brutally raped them. After the rape, the accused allegedly threatened the girls saying if they tell anyone about the incident then they will kill their families.

Both girls were so traumatised after the incident that they didn't inform anyone about it. The next day, the condition of one of the girls became critical. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. During the treatment, she slipped into a coma. On September 19, the victim girl tragically succumbed to her injuries which were caused during the brutal rape.

During the same period, the other traumatised girl also fell sick. Her parents took her to the hospital and informed the police. Later on, Police took her into confidence and asked her about what happened on the day of the incident. She girl broke down & narrated the entire incident. 

The Hinjewadi police filed an FIR of Rape and Murder under various section of IPC and protection of Children from the sexual offences (POCSO) act. 

After registering the FIR, police launched a search operation. Within a few hours, police arrested the two accused including a minor. According to the Hinjewadi police, accused Ganesh Nikam and the minor accused worked in a company as labourers. The victim girls' parents are also labourers. On the day of the incident, both the accused were waiting outside the temple. When girls came out they approached them with the offer of sweets. 

Now, the police will produce accused Ganesh Nikam in a local court on Thursday whereas minor accused will be produced before the juvenile court. 

The survivor is still under tremendous trauma and has been referred to a counsellor.
