'No need for Rahul Gandhi to take responsibility,' says Siddaramaiah after CLP meeting passes unanimous resolution that Gandhi must continue as AICC president

Following the CLP meeting by the Congress in Karnataka, the party's unit in the former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that Rahul Gandhi need not take the responsibility of the party's humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

Following the CLP meeting by the Congress in Karnataka, the party's unit in the former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that Rahul Gandhi need not take the responsibility of the party's humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. 

"No need for Rahul to take responsibility. He needs to continue. All of us are with him," he said.

"I proposed and we passed a unanimous resolution that Rahul Gandhi has to continue as the AICC president," he added.

Leader Dinesh Gundurao also confirmed saying that, "We have passed a unanimous resolution that Rahul has worked tirelessly but we could not get expected results. Have urged him no to resign. Have full faith in him." 

In view of the tumultuous political developments in Karnataka, Congress party's state unit called for a CLP meeting on May 29 in Bengaluru.Along with Rao, former chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah, deputy chief minister G Parameshwara and other leaders attended the meeting.

The JDS-Congress coalition, which is in power in the state, went through a rough patch during the campaigning of the recently held elections with leaders of both the parties accusing each other. Congress has 79 MLAs while Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) has 37 MLAs in the coalition government holding power in the state.

The tensions between the two parties benefitted the BJP which won 25 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka while both JDS and Congress had to content itself with just one seat each. However, the Karnataka Congress unit had said that there was no threat to the coalition in the state.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rajasthan Congress has passed a resolution that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi should not quit as party president.

Speaking to the media, Rajasthan Congress spokesperson with CM Ashok Gehlot at one side and deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot at the other side, he said:

"All the working members of the Rajasthan Pradesh Committee have passed regarding the resolution in the CWC meeting. The Committee today passed another resolution in favour of CWC resolution has decided along with senior leaders and executive members. To Rahul Gandhi, we request that we trust you completely and allow us to be under your leadership and guidance.
