Congress MP Manickam Tagore has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party over the adoption of a new dress code for the employees of Parliament house. Tagore has accused the BJP of promoting its official party symbol - Lotus - by adopting it as the theme for the new dresses, and questioned why the outfits have not been based on the theme of peacock or tiger despite them being national bird and animal respectively.
Tagore alleged that if questioned over the Lotus, the BJP will opine that lotus is the national flower. Sharing a video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tagore asked, “Why only the Lotus? Why can’t peacock or why can’t tiger be used on the outfits? Because they not BJP party election symbol.” The Congress MP has also questioned Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla regarding the decision saying, “Why this fall, sir Om Birla?”
Why lotus only?

The attire of Parliament House employees is set to undergo a transformation coinciding with the inaugural session in the new building on September 19. The new dress, set to replace the existing uniforms, will incorporate elements inspired by Indian culture and tradition. Marshals involved in maintaining decorum in the parliament would switch to kurta pyjama from conventional safari suits. For female employees working within the precincts of the Parliament House, the new dress code will involve wearing elegantly designed Indian sarees. The images of the dresses available depict that floral theme has been chosen.
