Karnataka: In a major incident, Mangaluru Police have arrested ten persons in connection with a latest armed robbery case at the residence of a PWD Contractor, including a member of the local gram panchayat who worked for the contractor as a driver. Police arrested ten individuals, including some from Kerala.
The incident occurred on June 21 in Ulaibettu, a gang of masked men entered the residence of the contractor and forcibly entered his home. He was assaulted and his family was threatened before they could leave valuables and cash worth Rs 9 Lakh.
Police Commissioner Anupam Agarawal identified the accused as Ramesh (42) from Neermanga village, Vasanth Kumar (42) from Neermanga Village, Raymond D'souza (47) from Bantwal, Balakrishna (48) from Kasargod, Zakir Hussain (56) from Thrissur, Vinoj (38) from Thrissur, Sajeesh MM (32) from Thrissur, Biju G (41) from Trivandrum, Sathish Babu (44) from Thrissur, and Shijo Devasi (38) from Kerala.
Vasanth worked for the contractor as a lorry driver for past four years. Vasanth discussed the cash present in the contractor's home with Ramesh who worked in a bakery. They later contacted Raymond and Balakrishna.
A Kerala Team, led by John Bosco who is yet to be arrested was contacted by Balakrishna. The team flew down to Mangalaru to plan the execution of the dacoity.
The Plan was prepared eight months ago.
They attempted to execute the plan on June 18 however it was unsuccessful, two days later on June 21, they managed to implement the robbery by posing as outsiders.
“Still 4-5 more arrests need to be made in this case.” Believing they could loot Rs 100 to 300 Crores, they brought more than 20 gunny bags and equipment to remove the tiles of the master bedroom, assuming the money was hidden underneath the floor" the police commissioner said.
The probe on this matter is ongoing, four to five more accused are yet to be detained.
