New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Culture has officially launched an e-auction featuring an extraordinary collection of gifts and mementoes received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi . The auction began on Tuesday and will run until October 2, offering over 600 items that showcase the rich diversity of India's culture, spirituality, history, and politics.
PM Modi Encourages Participation
In an announcement on X, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the auction, stating, “Every year, I auction the various mementoes I receive during public programmes. The proceeds go to the Namami Gange initiative. I’m delighted to share that this year’s auction has opened. Do bid for the mementoes you find interesting!”
Minister Shekhawat Highlights Cultural Significance
During a media briefing, Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized the significance of the collection, describing it as a reflection of "India's rich tapestry of culture, spirituality, history, and politics." A Diverse Collection of Artifacts
The auction features a diverse array of traditional art forms, including vibrant paintings, intricate sculptures, Indigenous handicrafts, and captivating folk and tribal artefacts. Among the items available are traditional angavastras, shawls, ceremonial swords, and other symbols of honour and respect.
Spiritual Artefacts
Notably, the collection includes meticulously crafted religious artefacts, such as detailed temple models like the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Dwarkadhish in Dwarka, alongside stunning statues of Hindu deities, further enriching the spiritual dimension of the exhibition.
Honoring Heroes and Sporting Spirit
A major section of the auction is dedicated to honoring India's brave warriors and freedom fighters, commemorating pivotal moments in the nation's history. Additionally, the auction will include sports memorabilia linked to the upcoming Paralympic Games in 2024.
Previous Auctions and Future Impact
This e-auction marks the sixth edition of a series that started in January 2019. Previous auctions have successfully raised over ₹50 crore, with proceeds directed toward significant national initiatives. Minister Shekhawat confirmed that funds from this auction will also support the Namami Gange Project, a flagship initiative aimed at conserving and restoring the Ganga River and its environment.
“The funds generated through this auction will support this worthy cause, strengthening our commitment to preserving our environment,” he stated.
