Aadhaar card lost? Follow these 5 easy steps to get it back

In the age of digital identity and government initiatives geared towards a more connected and streamlined society, the Aadhaar card has become a cornerstone of individual identification in India. Lodge a Complaint Online 

The first step in the process is to lodge a complaint online. Visit the official UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website and locate the 'Lost Aadhaar/Enrollment ID' option.  

Provide the necessary details, including your Aadhaar number (if available) and the registered mobile number. This step is crucial as it helps secure your Aadhaar information and prevents any misuse. 

File a Complaint at the Police Station 

To add an extra layer of security, file a complaint at your local police station about the loss of your Aadhaar card. Obtain a copy of the FIR (First Information Report) as it may be required during the reissuance process. This step ensures that the authorities are aware of the loss and can take appropriate measures to prevent misuse. 

Download e-Aadhaar 

While waiting for the reissuance of your Aadhaar card, you can download the e-Aadhaar, an electronic version of your Aadhaar card. Visit the official UIDAI website and select the 'Download Aadhaar' option.  

Enter your Aadhaar number along with the OTP received on your registered mobile number. The e-Aadhaar serves as a valid and legally accepted document and can be used until you receive the physical card. 

Visit the Nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre 

To initiate the process of reissuing your Aadhaar card, visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. Carry the necessary documents such as the FIR, a proof of identity, and a proof of address.  

The officials at the enrollment center will guide you through the process, including biometric verification, and provide you with an Aadhaar update request form. 

Receive the Aadhaar Card by Mail 

After completing the necessary formalities at the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre, your updated Aadhaar card will be sent to your registered address via mail. Ensure that the address provided is accurate to avoid any delays. Once received, verify the details on the new Aadhaar card and keep it in a secure place.
