Agra: Woman gang-raped, assaulted in homestay, five held

Agra: In a heinous crime that sent shockwaves to the nation, a 25-year-old woman narrated the story of her being gang raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra.  As many as five people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with an alleged gang rape of a woman at a hotel in Agra, police said on Sunday. The victim said that an objectionable video of hers was made earlier, and she was blackmailed over it.

The four accused—Ravi, Jitendra, Manish, and Dev Kishore, took turns raping the woman, who was left bleeding in a dreadful condition.

The woman was allegedly taken to a flat that is located outside a society in Tajnagari Phase 2 in Agra. The locals, upon hearing her cry for help, reached the spot and informed the police.

The Tajnagari police reached the spot and arrested the four men.

"On Saturday night, Tajganj police received a call that in a rich homestay, a woman here had been raped and was assaulted. According to the complaint filed by the victim, a case has been filed under relevant sections," Archana Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Agra Sadar, said on Sunday.

The police say that the victim was an employee of the hotel. A viral video shows the victim being assaulted by a group of men. "Four men and a woman have been arrested after the incident. The medical examination of the victim will be done, and legal action is being taken in the case," Singh said.

A case under IPC sections 376 (rape), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing pain), among other relevant sections, and sections 7 and 8 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act has been lodged.

A video of the woman crying for help has also surfaced on social media.
