Mumbai: Parts of Mumbai woke up on Sunday to a thick layer of smog, with air quality worsening in various neighborhoods. The Central Pollution Control Board's observatory in Malad West recorded the city's highest pollution level, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 202, categorized as 'poor.'
The 'poor' AQI range, from 201 to 300, can cause breathing discomfort for many people with prolonged exposure, according to the CPCB. Meanwhile, several other monitoring stations reported AQI levels classified as 'moderate.'
Air Quality Worsens In Mumbai
In areas like Byculla, Chembur, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Deonar, Ghatkopar, and Kandivali West, the AQI was recorded in the 'moderate' category. Meanwhile, observatories in Colaba, Kandivali East, Mulund West, and Powai reported AQI levels classified as 'satisfactory.' An AQI of 51-100 falls within this category, causing only minor breathing discomfort for sensitive individuals.
The 'moderate' AQI range, from 101 to 200, may lead to breathing difficulties for individuals with lung, asthma, or heart conditions.

In contrast, Delhi's air quality deteriorated on Sunday, with an AQI of 352, categorized as 'very poor,' according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). This marked a notable increase from Saturday's average AQI of 255, which was considered 'poor.' In the Anand Vihar area, the AQI exceeded 400, reaching 405 at 7 AM, classified as 'severe,' up from Saturday's reading of 367.
