Chapra: Collapsing bridges have continued to haunt Bihar as a similar incident took place in Chapra district, where a 10 year old bridge collapsed due to strong flow of rainwater. This is the 8th bridge collapse incident, which led to the disruption of contact of several villages on either side of the bridge.

According to the information, the bridge that was built 10 years ago on the river near Dhodhnath temple of Janata Bazaar collapsed on Wednesday. The bridge was reportedly constructed on a former MLA’s fund.

Bridge Collapsed in Siwan As Well on Wednesday

Earlier in the day, another case of infrastructural failure was witnessed in Bihar’s Siwan, when a portion of a bridge over Gandaki river collapsed on Wednesday morning, making it the seventh such incident in the eastern state within the past 15 days.

The small bridge located in the Deoria block of the district connects several villages to Maharajganj.

While no casualties have been reported yet, it is crucial to note that this is also the second bridge collapse in 11 days.

Villagers suggested that heavy rainfall over the preceding days may have contributed to the collapse, with a surge in the river water level potentially weakening the bridge's structure.

This incident follows another bridge collapse in Siwan just 11 days ago, underscoring growing concerns over the state of infrastructure in Bihar. On June 22, a portion of a bridge collapsed in the Darounda area.

Similar incidents were reported in districts like Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj recently, prompting the Bihar government to set up a high-level committee to investigate these occurrences.
