Ghazipur: Another apparent attempt to derail a train in Uttar Pradesh has come to light as a wooded block was found on railway tracks in Ghazipur, which the Swatantrata Senani Express was approaching. This is latest in the series of train derailment bid after Kanpur train derailment bid.
With the swift action of the train driver, a major tragedy was averted. The driver of the Express train applied emergency brakes quickly after spotting the wooden plank.
Swatantrata Senani Express was on its way to Delhi from Jaynagar in Bihar when the incident was reported. The train reached Alam Patti area near Ghazipur city station from Ghazipur ghat station at around 3am, when the driver spotted a big piece of wood between the rail tracks, which prompted him to apply emergency brakes.
Alert Driver Foils Bid
It is learnt that even after emergency brakes were applied, the train stopped after going about 400 meters, dragging along with that wood. When the driver got down and checked, he found over 2-feet-long wooden block. Therafter, the railway driver immediately informed the railway track inspector, RPF as well as ghazipur city station administration about it. Soon after, the entire railway department reached the spot.
Further, upon inspection the driver found that the hose pipe of the engine was also cut. Another engine was called from Aurihar and after about 2 hours of hard work, the train was allowed to continue its journey. The railway inspector of Ghazipur city has filed a complaint in sadar kotwali. Meanwhile, the Kotwali police has initiated a probe into the matter.
