New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi minister Atishi has ended her indefinite fast over the water scarcity in the national capital after she was hospitalised early Tuesday. She had begun her hunger strike on June 21.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, “Atishi's health deteriorated a lot, first her blood sugar level came to 43, then when it was checked, it came to 36 and after that, the doctor said that she could lose her life, the condition is very serious, she will have to be admitted to the hospital. We brought her to the hospital at night itself. She is admitted to the ICU of LNJP where the doctors are treating her and I pray to God that she gets well soon. She was on hunger strike for 5 days. Now the (protest) has been stopped but there are other ways of protest.”
The AAP MP said he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Delhi with its rightful share of water from Haryana. The issue will also be raised by AAP and its political allies, he added.
In the last three weeks, Delhi's share in the Yamuna was reduced by Haryana by 100 MGD. However, it has started increasing over the last two days and the shortfall is only 90 MGD now, he said.
Atishi was hospitalised during the wee hours of Tuesday after her blood sugar levels dropped to 46 due to the indefinite fast she was observing demanding water for the national capital amid the ongoing crisis. The party on its handle on X said that the minister has been admitted to the emergency ICU at the Lok Nayak Hospital.
"Water Minister Atishi's health deteriorates. Her blood sugar level dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 AM, after which LNJP Hospital doctors advised immediate hospitalisation," the post read.
"She has not eaten anything for the last five days and is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding Haryana government to release Delhi's share of water. She's been admitted in the emergency ICU at LNJP. We pray for her speedy recovery," it added.
Speaking to ANI, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said," Her blood sugar levels had been dropping from the night. When we submitted her blood sample, her sugar levels came out to be 46. When we checked her sugar levels from a portable machine, her sugar levels came out to be 36... Doctors are checking her vitals and only after that will they give suggestions..."
Speaking on Atishi's health, Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of LNJP Hospital said, “When Atishi was brought to the hospital, her blood sugar was low. She was drowsy and her sodium level was also low. She has been admitted to the Emergency ICU. She is currently on IV fluids. Her vital parameters are stable right now. Some blood tests have been done, the reports are awaited...”
