Bengaluru: Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), has introduced the country's first biometric-enabled self-bag drop facility.

Now, DigiYatra domestic passengers flying with Tata Group Airlines from Terminal 2 of Bengaluru airport only need to scan their faces to initiate the self bag-drop process.

How It Works:

1. Face Scan: Passengers choose "Scan Face Biometric for Baggage Drop" at the self-service bag drop machine.

2. DigiYatra Icon: Next, they select the DigiYatra icon to continue.

3. Flight Details: The machine produces flight details, and passengers are prompted to declare any dangerous items.

4. Baggage Handling: Passengers place their bags on the conveyor, where they are measured, weighed, and scanned before being fed into the baggage handling system, generating a baggage receipt.

Earlier, passengers using the self-bag drop facility at the airport had to print a boarding pass at self-check-in kiosks. Later, the boarding pass had to be scanned to initiate the bag drop process. Digi Yatra, utilising face-scan biometric technology, enables domestic passengers to navigate airports without a boarding pass or ID.

Bengaluru airport leads in technology advancement implementation to make the passengers' travel journey easy and better.
