A 23-year-old B.Tech graduate from NIT Bhopal, Saral Nigam, lost his life in a dam reservoir on Wednesday morning while attempting to rescue a friend's pet dog. Despite the dog swimming to safety, Saral tragically drowned. He was the only child of his parents and was preparing for UPSC exams after completing his engineering degree from MANIT.
Details of the incident
According to Investigation officer ASI Antram Yadav, Saral went to Jungle Camp in the Kerwa Dam area for a morning walk with two female friends around 7:30 am. One of the girls had her pet dog along for the walk.
The picturesque dam, located barely 10 km from the city centre, is a popular destination.
Around 8:30 am, the trio was strolling beside the waterbody downstream of the dam when the dog fell into the water. Determined to save the pet, they entered the water, holding hands. Unfortunately, they lost their footing in the current, leading to all three falling into the reservoir.
