Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 28,000 for BMC employees, surpassing last year’s bonus amount.
Mumbai: Ahead of the Maharashtra poll date announcement, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 28,000 for all employees of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The bonus will also be extended to state kindergarten teachers and Asha workers, marking an increase of Rs 3,000 compared to last year's bonus. In 2023, CM Shinde had announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 26,000 for BMC employees on November 8.
The timing of this announcement is significant, as it was made just minutes before the Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed the schedule for the Maharashtra legislative assembly elections, which brought the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) into effect.
Maharashtra ’s 288-member assembly will go to the polls in a single phase on November 20, with the vote counting set for November 23.
The term of the current assembly ends on November 26, 2024. Following the election announcement, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is now imposed across the state.
