A bus carrying dozens of passengers met with a tragic accident in the Bhambla area of Jammu. The bus, en route from Jammu to Rajouri district, veered off the road and tumbled into a deep gorge. The vehicle, bearing Uttar Pradesh (UP) registration number, was carrying passengers when the mishap occurred.
Local residents along with the police promptly initiated rescue operations. Four ambulances rushed to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts. So far, 22 injured individuals have been successfully evacuated from the gorge and transferred to Akhnoor Hospital for medical treatment.
The accident took place in the Kalidhar area of the district, they said, adding that the bus rolled around 150 feet down into the gorge.
The vehicle was carrying pilgrims to the Shiv Khori area, the officials said.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. However, authorities are actively engaged in managing the aftermath and providing necessary support to the affected individuals and their families.
The incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and the need for vigilance while traveling through hilly terrains. Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
In a tragic development, the toll from the bus accident in Tanda area of Jammu has risen to 25 injured, with six fatal casualties confirmed. Authorities fear the possibility of additional deaths as rescue operations continue.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu said, "A bus carrying passengers from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh has met with an accident near Tanda, Akhnoor in Jammu, the rescue operations are underway.
The accident took place at the Tangli morh in the Choki Chora belt of the district, they said, adding that the bus rolled around 150 feet down into the gorge.

The vehicle was carrying pilgrims from the Kurukshetra area of Haryana to the Shiv Khori area in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, they added.
The rescue operation is over.
Following the news, Prime Minister's Office condoled the tragic accident and stated that “Rs. 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of each deceased due to the bus mishap. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
