Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended four suspected ISIS terrorists, all Sri Lankan nationals, at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The suspects were taken for intensive questioning at an undisclosed location.
Their motive for being at the airport remains unclear. They reportedly arrived in Ahmedabad via Chennai from Sri Lanka and were allegedly in contact with Pakistani handlers. Security measures have been heightened at the airport.
The arrests coincided with the arrival of three IPL teams for qualifier and eliminator games.
Earlier in March, two ISIS leaders were arrested near the international border after crossing from Bangladesh. They were involved in recruitment, terror funding, and planning terror acts using improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additionally, in October last year, a suspected ISIS terrorist, Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama, was arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the Pune ISIS module case.
