9-Minute Bangla Bandh on 9/9 Announced to Seek Justice for Abhaya

A 9-minute Bangla Bandh has been announced on 9/9 at 9 pm, as it will be a month since the horrific Kolkata Case where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered.

Kolkata: The brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 shocked the nation and triggered nationwide protests that are still continued. To mark a month since the horrific Kolkata Rape and Murder Case, a Bangla Bandh has been announced for September 9 which will last for just nine minutes.

9-Minute Bangla Bandh Announced for 9/9

To mark a month of the spine-chilling rape and murder of ‘Abhaya’ and to seek justice for her and her family, the shortest Bangla Bandh has been announced on 9/9, for a period of nine minutes, at 9 pm.

During this bandh, everything will halt. Buses, cars, people- everything will stop and show solidarity, seeking Justice for Abhaya.

Kolkata Rape and Murder Case: RG Kar Ex-Principal Arrested

In a latest development in the RG Kar Rape and Murder Case, where the investigation is being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the former principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh, who has been questioned by the CBI officials for two weeks, has been arrested.

Along with him, three other people have been arrested in connection with the financial irregularities case - the ex-principal's bodyguard Afsar Ali and two vendors, Biplav Singha and Suman Hazara.

Biplav Singha is a 52-year-old vendor and a close aide of Sandip Ghosh who has been arrested in the financial irregularities case; he allegedly supplies medical units to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Like Biplav Singha, Suman Hazara is also a vendor who supplies medical units and is a close aide of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's former principal Sandip Ghosh.

The fourth arrest is that of Afsar Ali, who is the bodyguard of Sandip Ghosh. The 44-year-old man is also a close aide of Sandip Ghosh and is allegedly a part of his personal security.

Kolkata Horror: Protests Continue, Doctors Demand Resignation of Police Commissioner

The protesting doctors are demanding resignation of police commissioner Vineet Goyal. A junior doctor said "We will keep sitting here until the Commissioner of Police comes here and tenders his resignation. Our protest will continue until we get to meet the Commissioner of Police..."

Doctors in the city held an overnight protest, demanding justice in Kolkata trainee doctor's rape murder case and enhanced security measures for healthcare professionals.
