Atlas Cycles' Ex-President Salil Kapoor Shoots Self In Delhi
New Delhi: Salil Kapoor, the former president of Atlas Cycles, committed suicide on Tuesday. Kapoor was found dead on the ground floor of his three-storey residence on Aurangzeb Lane here. The police recovered a suicide note in which the deceased mentioned four to five individuals who had allegedly been ‘physically, mentally, and telephonically’ torturing him.
A senior police officer said that the incident came to light when Kapoor's family found his body lying in a pool of blood near the puja room inside their home. He was immediately rushed to AIIMS, but doctors declared him brought dead.
“Salil Kapoor, a former president of Atlas Cycles, died allegedly by shooting himself at his residence at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Lane. A police team is present at the spot and is investigating the matter. A suicide note has been recovered. Allegations of harassment have been made against a few people”, said Delhi Police in a statement.
In 2015, Salil Kapoor was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police in connection with two separate cheating cases amounting to Rs 9 crore. These cases had been registered at the Defence Colony police station.
Earlier in 2020, Salil Kapoor's sister-in-law, the wife of Atlas Cycles co-owner and promoter Sanjay Kapur, allegedly killed herself at her Aurangzeb Lane home in Lutyens’ Delhi.
A half-page “suicide note” was also found in her possession. In the note, purportedly written by her, Natasha had asked her husband and children to take care of themselves.
For the unversed, Atlas Cycles is one of India’s leading cycle manufacturing companies.
