Kolkata/New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's polygraph test as her cops resorted to baton charge ‘Nabanna’ march protesters. Calling Mamata a ‘dictator’, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, "If there is any dictator in the country, then that dictator is Mamata Banerjee... The truth should come out, the investigating agency CBI should do a polygraph test of Mamata Banerjee and the Police Commissioner. The truth cannot be suppressed and the biggest thing is that as long as these people are in their positions and are crushing the students, tearing the Constitution to pieces, this will not be tolerated, this issue will be raised strongly as it has been raised today..."

People vs Mamata: Police Brutality On Nabanna March Protesters

Mamata cops lobbed tear gas shells, used water cannons and resorted to lathicharge to disperse protestors on the Howrah Bridge marching towards the West Bengal State Secretariat Nabanna, amidst the row over the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. Shocking visuals of protestors being dragged on the roads of Kolkata by Mamata cops have also emerged and going viral on social  media platforms.

 'Nabanna Abhijan' Protest

Hundreds of processionists, mainly youths, started the 'Nabanna Abhijan' from two locations across the city on Tuesday afternoon demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the arrest of those responsible for the rape-murder of a doctor in RG Kar hospital.  The rally, organised by student platform 'Chhatrasamaj' and 'Sangrami Joutha Mancha' of state government employees, began from two locations - College Square in north Kolkata and Santragachi in Howrah.

In response to the rally, police erected barricades along the roads leading to Nabanna and in its vicinity, citing prohibitory orders in the area. Chhatrasamaj spokesperson Sayan Lahiri emphasised that the rally is apolitical. "Despite provocations, we intend to keep this a peaceful, democratic movement against the horrific crime committed against our sister at R G Kar hospital. We demand justice for her and her family. The call for justice by the people of Bengal and the country must be acknowledged by the Mamata Banerjee government," Lahiri said.
