Bomb Threat at South Delhi School Declared Hoax

Panic erupted after a school in South Delhi received a bomb threat via an email, officials said on Friday.

New Delhi: A private school in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area received a bomb threat via an email, officials said on Friday.

According to sources, the email was received by Summer Fields School on Thursday night. In the threat mail, it was mentioned that a bomb was planted in the school premises yesterday.

Soon after the school staff read the mail, police was alerted who rushed to the scene and launched a probe. The threat mail, prompted the evacuation of school students.  

Thorough checking was done by a bomb detection team but nothing suspicious was found, said a police officer, declaring the threat a hoax.. A dog squad was also deployed for the search.

An email was received at a school in Delhi's Greater Kailash area, threatening to blow up the school with a bomb. It is written in the email that a bomb was planted in the school yesterday. Nothing has been found in the investigation so far, legal action initiated,” the Delhi Police said.

According to the school principal, Shalini Agarwal said , the students were evacuated within 10 minutes of receiving the email.

“We received an email late at night which was checked early morning today. As per the SOP, we evacuated the students within 10 minutes of receiving the email. We informed the police and district administration, and we are thankful to the police - they supported us magnificently as they came immediately.”

"There are hardly any students here, we are just waiting for a few parents to come and collect their wards. Police and bomb squad are here and they are checking the premises...There was absolutely no panic amongst the parents," she added.

Further investigation into the matter is underway. 

Earlier in June, several museums in the national capital received a bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax. Prior to that, many schools and hospitals also received bomb threat emails, which also turned out to be hoaxes.
