Champai Soren Meets Amit Shah In Delhi, Set To Join BJP: Assam CM Himanta
Champai Soren, former Jharkhand chief minister, on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and is likely to join the BJP.
New Delhi: Champai Soren, former Jharkhand chief minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader, on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly polls. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present during the meeting, who later shared the information saying that Soren will join the BJP on August 30th in Jharkhand’s capital city Ranchi.
He posted a picture of Soren meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah here. Sarma, who is the BJP's co-incharge for the Jharkhand assembly polls, was also part of the meeting.
Champai Soren, had earlier hinted that he might float a new political party in the run-up to the state assembly elections.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a post on X, wrote, “Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren Ji met Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji a short while ago. He will officially join the BJP on 30th August in Ranchi.”
A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, Soren had accused its leadership of insulting him and announced that he would soon decide on his next political course.
It was widely speculated that he might join the BJP, with JMM leader and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accusing the party of working to poach its leaders.
