New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday arrested the 28-year-old man accused in the Gokulpuri road rage and murder case after a brief exchange of fire, said officials.
The accused has been identified as Majid Choudhary. During encounter, Choudhary sustained bullet injuries on both legs.
Meanwhile, the police recovered - one pistol 7.65 mm - with 2 rounds in the magazine and 3rd in the chamber and one motorcycle stolen from the area of Old Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar.
Choudhary is a resident of Garima Garden area of Sahibabad. He is already facing three cases against him in UP.
Police had received a tip-off that he would cross through Gokulpuri on Thursday night, following which police laid a tap to nab him.
When a police team tried to nab him at around 4am, he fire at cops which prompted police to retaliate.
On July 31, a woman, who was travelling with her husband on a bike, was shot dead in a road rage incident in Gokalpuri. According to Police, the deceased, identified as Simranjeet Kaur (30) was moving towards Maujpur along with her husband, Heera Singh (40). The incident took place after Heera Singh indulged in a verbal spat with another motorist near Gokal Puri Flyover after their vehicles almost brushed against each other.
After which, a person fired a single shot from the flyover down below, from a distance of about 30-35 feet which hit Simranjeet in her upper chest, near her neck. He took his wife to GTB Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
Subsequently, a case of murder was registered. Soon after, police swung into action and scanned CCTV footages to identify and arrest the assailant. Further investigation is underway.
