Agra: A MiG-29 fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force crashed near Agra on Monday. Fortunately, the pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft before it went down. The incident took place while the jet was en route to Agra for a scheduled exercise after taking off from Adampur in Punjab .
Defence officials confirmed that the pilot was safe, and there were no immediate reports of civilian casualties in the area. Republic World has accessed visuals showing plumes of smoke rising from the site of the crashed jet, along with a crowd of onlookers gathering nearby.
As investigations commence, a Court of Inquiry will be ordered to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and ascertain the cause.
This isn’t the first incident involving a MiG-29 fighter jet crashing and catching fire. On September 2, a MiG-29 went down in Rajasthan 's Barmer district after experiencing a technical malfunction. Fortunately, the pilot was able to eject safely before the crash.

The aircraft, which was on a training mission from an Air Force base in the Barmer area, encountered the issue and ignited shortly after crashing into an unpopulated field near Uttarlai.
The MiG-29 fighter jet has been colloquially referred to as "coffins" due to a history of accidents and safety concerns associated with the aircraft. This nickname stems from various incidents over the years, where mechanical failures and crashes have led to fatalities among pilots.
