IMD Issues Alert For Severe Rainfall In Pune

New Delhi: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to lash Maharashtra's Pune, Palghar, Satara and adjoining areas on Tuesday, August 6 after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for these areas.

The weather agency further issued an orange alert for Thane, Raigad, Mumbai, Nashik and Sindhudurg.

As per the weather agency, the temperature in Pune is likely to hover around 26.27 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature and maximum temperature is expected to be around 22.67 degrees Celsius and 27.29 degrees respectively.

Since the weekend, at least five people died and two were feared dead in rain-related incidents as heavy showers pounded most parts of Maharashtra, causing flood in lowing areas across Pune, Nashik, Sangli and Kolhapur in spate.

Meanwhile, one person died while another was swept away in Nashik district, and a BMC staffer drowned in the Bhatsa in Thane’s Shahapur.

In Pune, the irrigation authorities had to increase the discharge from the Khadakwasla dam at the rate of 45,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) at 5.30 pm on Sunday from the earlier 35,000 cusecs at 11 am. 

Amid heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra, the water levels in Mumbai's seven lakes have reached 90 per cent as of Monday, August 5, according to data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
