New Delhi: Savitri Jindal, India's richest woman, is leading from the Hisar assembly seat in Haryana according to early trends. Running as an independent candidate, Jindal is up against Bharatiya Janata Party's Kamal Gupta, who has been Hisar's MP since 2014.

Jindal previously represented Hisar as a Congress candidate from 2005 to 2013 before losing to Gupta.

When asked about his mother’s independent candidacy, Naveen Jindal told PTI, “It will be a one-sided contest, and Mata Savitri Jindal will win by a large margin.”

Aside from Jindal and Gupta, Congress candidate Ram Niwas Rara is also in the race for Hisar. The main contenders in the election are BJP , Congress , Aam Aadmi Party, INLD-BSP, and JJP-Azad Samaj Party, with most seats witnessing a direct contest between BJP and Congress.

Voting for Haryana ’s 90 assembly seats concluded on October 5, with the counting process beginning at 8 am.

Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by EVMs 30 minutes later.

Several exit polls have predicted a Congress victory in Haryana which recorded a voter turnout of 67.90 per cent. However, the BJP has claimed it will return to power for a third consecutive term in Haryana . Around 12,000 police personnel are on duty at the counting centres across the state
