New Delhi: A massive fire broke out in the Neuroscience Campus of Jiwaji University in Gwalior on Tuesday, following which massive chaos erupted in the lab located on the first floor of the Neuroscience Department.
To evacuate the students, authorities broke the glass windows. Besides, more than half a dozen fire engines were pressed into service to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is believed to be a blast in the deep freezer and AC. The incident has resulted in an estimated loss of lakhs of rupees.
Thick smoke from the fire was visible from several kilometres away. The blaze started on the first floor during MSC fourth semester viva exams, which were taking place on the second floor. As the smoke began to fill the building, students started feeling suffocated, alerting them to the danger below. Staff members swiftly broke the windows with their hands to facilitate a safe evacuation. The fire brigade arrived quickly, deploying over six fire trucks to extinguish the flames.
