NEET-PG 2024, Scheduled to Take Place Tomorrow, Gets Postponed: New Dates to Be Announced Soon

The NEET-PG 2024, which was scheduled to take place on June 23, Sunday, was declared postponed amid the paper leak row.

New Delhi: The NEET-PG 2024, which was scheduled to take place on June 23, Sunday, was declared postponed a day before it was slated to be conducted, amid the paper leak row across the country. The NEET-PG Entrance Examination was scheduled to take place tomorrow, however, in the backdrop of recent allegations concerning the integrity of several competitive examinations, the exams were postponed. The new dates for the entrance exam, which is conducted by the National Board of Examination for Medical Students, will be announced in the coming days, says official sources.

Following the postponement of the exam, the Union Ministry of Health stated that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to maintain the integrity of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination.

The Union Ministry in an official statement said, “Taking into consideration, the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG Entrance Examination.” 

“It has accordingly been decided, as a precautionary measure to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled to be held tomorrow i.e. 23rd June, 2024. Fresh date of this examination will be notified at the earliest,” it ministry added.

"The Ministry of Health sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to the students. This decision has been taken in the best interests of the students and to maintain the sanctity of the examination process," the statement by the ministry  further read.

Earlier, the UGC-NET examinations were cancelled a day after it was held. 

Notably, this is the second competitive exam that has been postponed due to the row over exam paper leak issue. A day before, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced that the CSIR-UGC-NET exam, scheduled to take place from June 25, has been postponed due to "unavoidable circumstances". There is also an ongoing row over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Earlier, in the day, the Ministry of Education sacked Director General (DG) of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Subodh Kumar and appointed IAS Pradeep Singh kharola as the new NTA chief. This comes hours after the Education Ministry said it has constituted a high-level committee of experts under the chairmanship of Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO and Chairman BoG, IIT Kanpur, to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of examinations through the National Testing Agency.
