The development took place amid violent protests that gripped the nation for days killing over 300 people. Hasina fled the country and is currently taking shelter in India. She first entered India via Agartala and later landed at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, near Delhi. Hasina’s official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka was stormed by protesters as she fled the country to India and landed at Hindon Air Base near New Delhi.

The Biden Administration has said an interim government in Bangladesh, which has descended into chaos after the sudden resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid violent anti-quota protests, should be formed according to democratic principles, rule of law and the will of the Bangladeshi people.
"We want to see the Bangladeshi people decide the future of the Bangladeshi government," State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily news conference.
Bangladesh descended into chaos as Prime Minister Hasina surreptitiously resigned and fled the country in a military aircraft while the army stepped in to fill the power vacuum by announcing an interim government.
West Bengal Police urged people to avoid sharing provocative videos.
In a post on X, West Bengal Police wrote, "Given the current situation in neighbouring Bangladesh, we have noticed a few posts and videos on social media that may create discord and unrest. Please do not pay attention to rumours, do not share provocative videos, do not step into a fake news trap..."
"We are monitoring the situation in Bangladesh closely," a White House National Security Council spokesperson said here on Tuesday.
"The United States has long called for respecting democratic rights in Bangladesh, and we urge that the interim government formation be democratic and inclusive," the spokesperson said.
With volatile crowds taking to the streets in Dhaka, Bangladesh Army chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced that the 76-year-old prime minister has resigned.
An interim government will be taking over, he said in a televised address. "I'm taking all responsibility (of the country). Please cooperate." The NSC spokesperson said the US "commend the Army for the restraint they have shown today. We encourage all parties to refrain from further violence and restore peace as quickly as possible".
The United States is monitoring the Bangladesh situation "closely" and urges that the formation of an interim government there be democratic and inclusive after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, according to a White House National Security Council spokesperson.
Bangladesh Air Force’s C130 J will be flying to Panagarh Air Base later in the night. It will be based at Panagarh and might come back to ferry Hasina as she gets clearances for journey ahead.
