NCP dissolves all district committees in J&K

The Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party has dissolved all the district and lower-level committees in Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.

The dissolved committees include the Pulwama district committee, a party release stated on Monday.

This decision was finalised after careful consideration effective from July 28, it said. 


Central agencies failed to find any evidence in excise case: AAP after CBI files final charge sheet

The AAP on Monday said the central probe agencies have failed to find any evidence in the excise policy case and asserted that it is a "staunchly honest" party.

The reaction from the ruling party in Delhi came hours after the CBI filed its final charge sheet in the trial court against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and five others, including AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak, in the case.

The BJP and its agencies have been investigating this case for two years, filing over 50,000-page charge sheets and interrogating more than 500 witnesses, while conducting raids at multiple locations, the AAP said in a statement.

Samajwadi Party's relationship with criminals and mafia has not ended. If Samajwadi Party's relationship with criminals and mafia ends, then Samajwadi Party will itself end," he said.


2 Rajasthan govt officials held for taking bribe of Rs 40,000

A team of Anti Corruption Bureau on Monday arrested two officers of Water Resources department in Rajasthan's Udaipur for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000, an official said.

DG ACB Raviprakash Meherda said Executive Engineer Ganpat Sharma and Additional Administrative Officer Gajendra Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 90,000 from the complainant to issue work order to his firm.

Five More Arrested in Connection with Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy

New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested five more people in connection with the deaths of three civil service aspirants due to waterlogging in the coaching insitute's basement. 

Previously, two persons, Abhishek Gupta (owner of the building) and Depshal Singh (Coordinator) were arrested.

The total number of arrests made is now at seven, including the owners of the building.

Two 'Kanwariyas' Dead, 14 injured as Truck Hits Tractor-Trolley in MP's Morena

Madhya Pradesh: Two 'kanwariyas' died and 14 were injured after a truck hit a tractor-trolley in Morena in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, a police official said.

The incident took place at 5am on National Highway number 44, some 10 kilometres from the district headquarters, which led to enraged villagers beating up the truck driver and also blocking the arterial road for some time, the official said.

"The tractor-trolley was trailing the kanwariya procession to provide assistance. Two kanwariyas, Bharat Lal Sharma (37) and Ramnaresh Shrama (26) from Sihoniya area, died and 14 are injured. The injured have been hospitalised and are currently out of danger. The roadblock by the villagers has been cleared," Morena Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anurag Thakur said.

A sizable number of personnel has been deployed at the site to ensure law and order; the additional SP informed.

'Kanwars' are pilgrims who carry water from the Ganga to perform 'jal abhishek' of Shivlings during the Hindu month of Shravan. 


Veteran Congress leader, Former MP minister Arif Aqueel Passes Away

Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh minister and senior Congress leader Arif Aqueel passed away on Monday at the age of 72 in a private hospital in Bhopal after prolonged illness, family sources said.

Aqueel, who was elected from Bhopal North assembly seat six times in his long political career, is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter.

He won as an Independent MLA for the first time in 1990 and later joined the Congress. He emerged victorious from Bhopal North seat in the 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 assembly polls. However, he lost the polls from Bhopal North in 1993 as a Janata Dal supported candidate.

He was a prominent Muslim face of the party and was cabinet minister in the Congress governments led by Digvijaya Singh (1996-2003) and Kamal Nath (2018-2020).

Both Singh and Nath expressed grief at the death of Aqueel. 


Security Beefed Up as Students Protest in Old Rajinder Nagar Coaching Hub

New Delhi: Security has been beefed up in the Old Rajinder Nagar area amid a protest by civil service aspirants over the death of three students due to flooding in their institute's basement following heavy rains, officials said on Monday.

The protesting aspirants have gathered outside Rau's IAS Study Circle demanding justice for the students who lost their lives on Saturday.

"We have deployed paramilitary forces and police in the area to maintain law and order," a senior police officer said.

The three civil services aspirants lost their lives after the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle was flooded following rains on Saturday.

A massive protest was witnessed on Sunday as well when the students squatted and blocked both the carriageways of the Pusa Road near the Karol Bagh Metro Station.

"We request all to maintain law and order. The Pusa Road is an important road with many hospitals in the vicinity. We have barricaded the area and deployed additional force to maintain peace. We will ensure that no one is disturbed due to the protest," said the officer.

Odisha: Goods Train Derails in Bhubaneshwar

A goods train derailed in Bhubaneswar in the early hours of Monday, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said.

The incident happened at 1.35 am in the railway yard at Mancheswar station, it said in a statement.

There was no loss of life or damage to properties due to the derailment, it added.

Because of the derailment, two trains were cancelled and six trains were rescheduled, while the Puri-Rourkela Express was short-terminated in both directions, the statement said.

The line was cleared for movement of trains at 5.05 am, it said.

The 45-year-old son of a Thane Shiv Sena (UBT) leader died of a heart attack during an argument with an autorickshaw driver in Vasai in Palghar district, after which police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against an unidentified person, an official said on Monday.

Milind More, son of Raghunath More, former Thane district chief of the undivided Shiv Sena, was at a resort in Navapur with his family when the incident took place late Sunday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajbale said.

"While moving out of the resort, he had an argument with a rickshaw driver, during which he collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared him dead on arrival and opined heart attack as the prima facie cause," he said.

Amid severe rainfall, a new batch of 1,677 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for the Amarnath shrine in the hours of Sunday amid tight security arrangements, officials said.

The 31st batch of pilgrims includes around 1,300 men and 200 women. It also included two children and 104 sadhus and sadhvis who left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp at 3.35 am in a convoy of 67 vehicles escorted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), they said.

Fire Engulfs Restaurant in Delhi’s INA Market, Blaze Under Control

Six people were injured in a fire early Monday at a restaurant in the INA market in south Delhi which also engulfed two adjacent fast-food joints, officials said.

They said a call about the blaze was received at 3.18 am and seven fire tenders were pressed into service. They took about two hours to douse the fire, a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said.

Some restaurant workers sleeping inside got injured in the fire that also gutted two adjacent fast-food joints, he said. The official said two of the injured were admitted to the AIIMS while four others at the Safdarjung Hospital.
