Mumbai: The Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 are round the corner and ahead of the polls, in a major surprise, veteran politician and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Supremo Sharad Pawar has hinted at a possible retirement from politics. While Sharad Pawar has not directly spoken about retiring, his statements during a rally in Baramati have hinted towards the same.

Sharad Pawar To Retire? Here's What the Veteran Said

While addressing a rally in Baramati's Shirsuphal, Sharad Pawar said, “Now, it's time to prepare for the future. We need to groom leadership that will work for the next 30 years.” According to reports, he also said that he would decide if he should continue after his current Rajya Sabha term ends in a year and half or not.

This statement has fueled rumours about the possible Sharad Pawar retirement ahead of the Maharashtra Elections which will be held later this month.

Sharad Pawar Takes Dig at Nephew Ajit Pawar

During the rally, in an apparent dig at Ajit Pawar , Sharad Pawar said if someone keeps saying he will take everything, people may not say anything but will disapprove of it. Pawar further said that though he hadn't come to ask for votes recently, the people of Baramati have never disappointed him.

The NCP (SP) chief charted developmental works in Baramati, including setting up an industrial area, attracting businesses and generating employment. The NCP (SP) chief said the contest for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat earlier this year was difficult, as it was fought within the family, and now, after five months, people of the region will witness a similar situation.

Pawar senior was campaigning for grandnephew NCP (SP) candidate Yugendra Pawar, who will take on his uncle Ajit Pawar, in the November 20 assembly polls.
