BSF Launches Operation Alert Across Indo-Bangladesh Border
Amidst growing tension in Bangladesh over anti-quota protests, the BSF has launched ‘Operation Alert’ to monitor the situation across the border.

New Delhi: Amidst growing tension in the neighbouring country of Bangladesh over anti-quota protests, the Border Security Force (BSF) has launched ‘Operation Alert’ to monitor the situation across the border closely and is on high alert to deal with any untoward situation. Apart from security, the BSF has been facilitating the repatriation of Indian and foreign students from Bangladesh.
The BSF spokesperson stated that the BSF Eastern Command has been entrusted with the responsibility of guarding Indo-Bangladesh borders which pass through 32 districts of five Indian States, including West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
BSF Facilitated 4315 Students From Various Countries On Indo-Bangladesh Border
Pertinently, the BSF is the largest border guarding force of the world and the BSF Eastern Command with six under command Frontiers manning 4096.7 Kms of border with Bangladesh. The Indo-Bangladesh border is notably the fifth-longest land border in the world.
As per the official, the main problem on the Indo-Bangladesh border is smuggling, illegal cross-border movement and migration from Bangladesh into India and vice-versa. However, the current law and order situation in the neighbouring country due to anti quota protests is having security challenges and implications for the Border Security Force.

Considering the present security scenario in Bangladesh, ADG BSF HQ Special DG (Eastern Command) Ravi Gandhi has issued an ‘Operation Alert’ all along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The BSF is closely monitoring the situation across the border and troops are on high alert to deal with any untoward situation.
Besides, the BSF is also facilitating the safe return of Indian students as well as students of other countries in close coordination with sister agencies and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in the states of West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura. BSF has made all types of Operational and Administrative arrangements at all Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) and Land Customs Stations (LCSs), including refreshments, food packets, transportation, health check-ups, etc.

The official asserted that during the last 4 days, as many as 4315 numbers of Indian and foreign students have been received and assisted by the BSF on the India-Bangladesh border. Along with the heightening of the vigil at the Indo-Bangladesh border, the security force is putting sincere efforts into providing support to the students. Of 4315 students, the following number of students from various countries have been facilitated:
- India - 3087
- Bangladesh - 41
- Nepal - 1118
- Bhutan - 66
- Maldives - 02
- Canada - 01
