CBI Books Deputy Director For Demanding Rs 2 Crore Bribe In Mumbai
An official working as Deputy Director at Registrar of Companies, Mumbai has been booked by the CBI for allegedly seeking Rs 2 crore bribe.
New Delhi: An official working as Deputy Director at Registrar of Companies, Mumbai has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly seeking Rs 2 crore bribe for preparing a favourable report for a company under investigation, officials said on Thursday.
The probe agency conducted the search operation at the premises of Sai Shankar Landa (accused in the case) in Mumbai and his native place in Vishakhapatnam on Wednesday.
The CBI's action followed a complaint from a businessman whose company was being investigated by the RoC Mumbai. The FIR alleged that a bribe of Rs 2 crore was paid to prepare a favorable report in the ongoing investigation into his company at the RoC Mumbai.
"The allegations mentioned in the complaint has been discretely verified in presence of Panch Witnesses on April 23, 2024, which reveals that Sai Shankar Landa, Deputy Director, Registrar of Companies, Mumbai has after negotiation, agreed to accept bribe of Rs. 30-35 lakhs from the complainant," the CBI FIR alleged.
Following verification, the CBI secured approval to proceed against Landa under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and subsequently registered a case.
CBI Books 6 CGST Officers Posted In Mumbai In Bribery Case
Earlier, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three officials working at CGST (anti-evasion), Mumbai as they were caught red-handed taking a bribe amount of Rs 30 lakh.
The probe agency has booked six officials in this case.According to an FIR, the CBI registered a case on a complaint against eight accused, including six officers of CGST, Mumbai, comprising an Additional Commissioner, a Joint Commissioner, four superintendents, and two private persons, including a Chartered Accountant, on allegations of bribery, etc.
It has been alleged that when the complainant visited the CGST Office in Santacruz on the evening of September 4, he was detained there overnight and was only released about 18 hours later, on September 5. It was also alleged that during this detention, one of the accused, the Superintendent of CGST (the bribe taker), demanded a bribe of Rs 80 lakh to avoid arrest, which was later reduced to Rs 60 lakh.
