Anubhav Dubey, the creator of Chai Sutta Bar, posted on social media about his company's decision to start offering period leave roughly three months ago, in the midst of the continuing discussion surrounding paid menstruation leave.

On Monday, Dubey emphasized on LinkedIn the various menstrual experiences and requirements that women have. He disclosed that he had diverse reactions from the female team members when his employer proposed the concept of period leave.

He observed that some women might not need time off during their menstrual cycle, but that others might suffer from excruciating pain that made it difficult for them to work.

Taking to X, he wrote, “Giving leave for menstrual days was not a tough decision. I believe there are a few things that only women understand, and we, as men, only get to see and hear about them.”

He added, “Around three months ago, we were incorporating “period leave” at Chai Sutta Bar, and when we introduced this to the female members of our team, we had different responses.”

He stated, “Some of them said that they did not need any period leave, while others said that they needed this leave because they felt unbearable cramps.”

He further stated, “The discussion was very healthy, as everyone respected the different experiences faced by different women in the room.”

“ I think every human body is not the same. There are some women whose bodies can bear this pain, and then there are these women who we have seen fainting because of the intensity of the pain,” he continued.

He went on, “Both of them are justified. If we talk about the leave for this natural process in women, I feel it should be kept open. We have implemented this leave, understanding the importance of it for those who need it.”

Recent comments made by Union Minister Smriti Irani in Parliament have garnered significant attention. She spoke against the idea of requiring paid menstruation leave in all companies, clarifying that the government does not currently have plans to implement such a policy.
