Chandigarh: Shocking news coming from Punjab University, Chandigarh, where cockroaches were discovered in a meal served at one of the university canteens near the student centre.

Students protested after a cockroach was found in a meal served at one of the university canteens near students centre. The incident sparked fury among students, leading to a thorough inspection of several canteens on the campus premises.

According to reports, During the inspection led by Dr. Navin, the warden of Hostel 4, multiple violations of hygiene were unearthed. Cockroaches were found in freezers containing vegetables and noodles, while some food items were reported to have gone bad due to improper storage. 

Students documented these findings and registered their discontent with the administration, highlighting longstanding issues of cleanliness negligence in the canteens.

In response to the allegations, canteen operators defended themselves, claiming that they have been serving meals to students for years without such incidents. They argued that despite their efforts to maintain cleanliness and affordability, some students consistently criticize the quality of food served, comparing it unfavorably to more expensive options available outside the campus.

Students have now escalated the matter to the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), demanding stringent action against the canteen operators and immediate improvements in food quality and hygiene standards. They have vowed to keep the canteens closed until satisfactory measures are implemented to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the food served on campus.

This entire incident at Panjab University highlights not only cleanliness issues in campus canteens, but also the need for increased accountability and transparency in academic facility management.
